This year I am doing owls in my classroom. I got these owls at the craft store for 50 percent off. They have to be put together. I started on some of them. I am going to try and get my eleven year daughter to help. She will probably be like mom ugg.
This year I bought these baskets for my independent reading. I saw someone else had used these. I thought about buying those expensive ones from really good stuff. I just didn't want to spend my money. These baskets will fit perfect on the shelves above the students coat closest.
Look what I found at the dollar store!
Next week I will be going into my class to get ready for the school year and also trying to get a little more fun in before my break ends. We are going to the zoo.
My cats will be sad because they will have to be home alone. They have enjoyed having us home all summer.

I have been working on making centers for my students to use during my math workshop. I am concentrating on the first chapter in our math series. It involves the domain Operations and Algebraic Thinking. In Illinois, we use the common core. This center uses related math facts. Students can write the answers on the cupcakes using a dry erase marker. Our math series is My Math. What series do you use?

A friend of mine is making new curtains for my closet. My curtains are faded and I never liked the pattern. They were picked out for me. This is what I picked out.
Here is my latest find at the thrift store.
I am trying to decide which borders I should use. I am not sure if I want to use owls or just the different colors. Here is one set of the borders.
Here is another example. Which do you like?
Here is a fun little unit to start the school year out with.

I found some great storage boxes for my centers! They are scrapbook storage boxes. They sale them at Michaels. They are 9.99 regular price. I got mine for 3.99. I was also lucky because I had a 20% coupon on all purchases. I also bought cardstock for $2.00 on sale. I use it for my centers. I have seen the storage boxes on sale before. So, if you like these just watch Michaels for their sale. What do you use to store your centers?

I am sure everyone has been reading all kinds of professional books this summer. Especially at the beach or pool! (Yea, right!) I have read a few books. I like to use amazon because you get a preview of the book before you have to buy it. I found an interesting read by Laura Candler Power Reading Workshop. I do the workshop model in my classroom. This year I want my students to do a better job of picking their own books. I have to admit sometimes I would just grab some books to put in their bags because I was so busy. Candler's book recommend reading the story Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians to introduce the workshop. It tells them how to use the 5 finger method to figure out if a book is a good fit for them. It's a cute book with some excellent opportunities to discuss the workshop format with your students. It is available from amazon and is also on you tube for free. Click on the picture to go to amazon.
