Silent Letters!

I have taught first and second grade. In my district they require us to give the IOWA test.  On each of these test they have a section dealing with silent letters. I decide to look for a story book that might address this concept. I found Silent Letters Loud and Clear. I decided to make a unit for the book. The unit is avaiable on TPT. Click here to see the unit.

Paul Bunyan

My daughter had to make something that Paul Bunyan would use. It had to be his size. She made a cell phone. Then she wrote up a little speech to go with it.

Five For Friday (Saturday)

I couldn't get it done last night because I was too tired. I had field day and then drove two hours to my sister's house for the long weekend. So, here is my five for Friday on Saturday.

1. It was spirit week at our school.  One of the days was wear your PJs. The students were very excited that day. Lets just say it was a long day.

2. This week we made our end of the year ice cream books. They turned out really cute. Tuesday we are having an ice cream party.

3. I made a new game for the students. I called it turtle crossing. It can be a card game or a memory game. Students have to match antonyms. They really had fun doing the game. It makes me feel good when I see the students using things I made. I think about all the money I spent on games at the teacher store only to have students loose pieces.  Now if they loose something, all I have to do is go to my printer.

4. It was my favorite day of the year-field day. (not) We were outside from 9:30 to 1:30 with a break for lunch. The students have a great time so it makes it worth it.

5. This year my school  added a mobile video activity. Inside the mobile video truck students could play video games. I say about 18 of them sat inside. On the outside they had two big TVs with just dance games, The kids loved it and so did some of the adults.

Crabby Crab

It's crabby crab time! It's a game where students match synonyms. If they pick a crabby crab they miss a turn.  I tried this game out with my second grader at home. She liked it and I knew  my students would also. If you like it, it's available on TPT.

Summer School

How many of you teach summer school?  I use to teach it almost every year. Last summer I stayed home with my daughter. I really enjoyed my time at home and I decided to stay home again. I made this contraction game with a summer theme but, it can be used any time. It's available on TPT.

Budding Blog

I am linking up with I heart Recess.
1. Why did I start blogging?

My sister said she was starting a blog about nursing. That made me think I should start one about teaching. I also saw all the fantastic blogs out their in blog land and decided I had to try it.

2. What is your favorite subject to teach and why?

I love teaching reading and seeing the students progress to different reading levels. I love it so much I went and got my masters in reading.

3. Describe your teaching style

I like to have fun with my students. I try to create fun ways to learn. I don't like doing worksheets. I don't sit at a desk and teach. I would like to get rid of it because it just takes up space and someone keeps putting junk on it.

4. Three interesting facts about you.

    1. In high school, I was in the color guard and marched in the Macy's Day Parade, The Rose Bowl parade, and a parade in Hawaii.

     2. I can play the violin.

     3.  I had an idea published in the Mailbox Magazine when I taught kindergarten.

5. Do you have a tpt store?
Yes, I do! I just started it. I really didn't know how to make stuff at first but, now I have learned some of the tricks. I just have a few things in it. I  plan on working on it this summer.  Check it out!

Five for Friday

Linking up with Doodle Bugs!

1. We went on a field trip to the nature museum in Chicago. They have a really nice butterfly display where you get to go inside and butterflies are flying around. I was afraid someone would step on them. Luckily, we made it out with no squashing.

2. This is at the nature museum. He told me to take his picture and of course everyone ran over there and he got mad. I had everyone move away and took the picture.

3. We are winding down for the year and I let the students do centers of their choosing. They are making play dough words.

 4.  This is another center activity that I made for my students.

5. We have six days and two hours left of school!! Here we come pool!!!

Center Activity

I made this game for my students. They have to match the coconuts to palm trees. The coconuts have addition sentences and the palm trees have the sums. There are also crazy coconuts that can go on any tree. The student with the most coconuts wins the game. Click here to go to my tpt.

What did they say Wednesday?

What Did They Say!?

We went on a field trip to the nature museum this week. The museum is in Chicago. On our way there we pass the lake. I was sitting with one of my students and he said I like fish. Then he pointed to the lake and said not those kind, cooked kind. It was so cute. He says a lot of funny things.

Funniest Card

It was teacher appreciation week. My friend in first grade got one of the funniest cards I have ever seen. It was given to her by one of her students.   Here is a picture of the card.

Five for Friday

1. We made a pinata for Cinco Da Mayo and finally got to bust it open. I had no clue what to do.  Luckily, one of the fourth grade teachers helped me.

2. It was teacher appreciation week. One of my parents got me these balloons.  They were tied to a six pack of coke. She knows I love coke.

3. We had career day this week. My class had a librarian come tell about her career. She brought some fun things to do with the kids.

4. My partner sent one of her students over to cool off in my room.  The student decided to add some art work to my shelf and cabinet.

5. Happy Mother's Day to all! My baby made this for me.
